Little Green Pig is a creative writing and mentoring charity, offering free writing workshops for children and young people across Sussex.
We believe that offering children and young people the opportunity to develop writing skills and invest in their imaginations can truly change their lives. It’s a vital form of self-expression that builds confidence, communication and literacy skills - and it’s fun!
We work in partnership with education providers, community and cultural organisations with a focus on engaging children and young people who face the greatest obstacles in reaching their potential. With support from our amazing team of volunteers and in collaboration with professional writers, illustrators and artists, we strive to provide highly personalised in-depth coaching on creative writing techniques in all forms that invite them to be curious, take risks and value their voices.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
We’re looking for volunteer Story Mentors and Illustrator Mentors to support our after-school clubs and one-off projects in Brighton, Worthing, Eastbourne and across Sussex.
Mentors work alongside our workshop leaders, providing children and young people, aged 7-18 with in-depth support, helping to create a safe space for them to write for pleasure and purpose.
You'll be able to bring your own passion for creativity to mentor children and young people through after school clubs, residencies and projects with the mission of nurturing their confidence, self-expression and creative potential.
Our projects are led by professional writers and artists, encompassing storytelling in all its forms. From fiction to podcasts, poetry anthologies to spoken word performances, comics to soap operas and so much more - there's something for everyone!
