In 2007 I started working in an organisation in Community Base and have seen up close what it can do from the inside. I have worked in the public, private and voluntary sector, now a Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
In these days of hollowed out public services a strong third sector has never been so important. As a trustee I am privileged to help the fabulous Olivia Canham and her wonderful team contribute to the City through the work of Community Base and it’s inhabitants.

Carol Hounsell
I love Brighton and the people that live here, our creative city is unique in so many ways. Brighton attracts innovative people with a social awareness, and many of those individuals find a home at Community Base.
As an Information Specialist and a woman of colour, I work across the public sector to address (health) inequalities. I also work with individuals from diverse backgrounds & organisations to close the digital skills gap and improve representation within the tech world.
Sandie Meredith
I was born in Brighton, went to school locally and studied at the University of Sussex. I worked at the University of Brighton as Researcher/ Lecturer for many years in the area of organisational/technology innovation management.
Since retiring I have been volunteering at Hollingdean Community Centre, and was invited to become Trustee at Community Base. I feel that Community Base is a unique and special organisation. Knowing all the good work that goes on, I was pleased to accept. I find it very rewarding and keeps me in touch with the life of Brighton.
