The Archway Project is a 24-hour residential service comprising of a five and a nine-bed house, for people with mental health support needs in Hove.
Both services have a recovery and person-centered focus, working collaboratively with residents in intensive short-term placements. The aim is to enable people to move on to more independent living within two years.
The services are funded by the Clinical Commissioning Group and are regulated by the Care Quality Commission.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Wellbeing Volunteer who has an interest in mental health support needs to join our team at BHT Sussex Archway. This is an exciting opportunity which allow you to gain an Indepth understanding of a mental health service, while making a positive difference to people's lives. As this is a flexible opportunity, you would therefore be responsible for planning your own time with residents and choosing the hours that you would like to dedicate to our service. You will also receive a thorough induction and training plan from experienced mental health professionals. You can expect to spend quality time with residents which could include the following: playing board games, baking, cooking, taking walks in nature, exploring coffee shops, playing croquet, or participating in other recreational activities of your choosing (all expenses covered).
What induction, training and support is offered?
A thorough training and induction plan offered by BHT Sussex which can be delivered online or in person (depending on person’s availability)
Access to BHT Me Learning platform which offers various online training courses
The new Volunteer would have access to in person and online zoom training offered to all BHT Sussex staff
Continuous feedback, supervision, and development support as offered by the Volunteer Lead
Ability to participate in regular volunteer and reflective practice meetings
What skills or qualities are needed?
The ability to work in a way which is person centered and psychologically informed
Excellent listening and social skills paired with the ability to empathize and redirect issues
Ability to be proactive by planning your own time with residents and communicating in a clear and concise manner with staff
Adequate organization skills with the willingness to learn
A kind individual who seeks to make a positive difference to the lives of vulnerable adults
