Volunteer Driver at Brightstore

Brightstore is a community of people in Brighton and Hove who believe that everyone should have access to affordable, local, quality food.
We source surplus and donated high quality, local, fresh food and turn it into an affordable weekly shop for those that need it most, at a fraction of what it would normally cost. We operate for our members and are run by our members.
Brightstore operates in 4 community venues across Brighton and Hove across each week.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

Brightstore relies on regular deliveries and collections of surplus food which is donated to us from a range of places across Brighton and Hove. We are looking to increase our number of volunteer drivers, who can help us shift stock from store to store, and pick up surplus food donations. We have a number of regular collection slots at different venues and are seeking volunteers who can commit to one or more pick ups or deliveries each week.
If you have a large car or small van and are able to lift packages of food and transport them to and from Brightstore stores for specific times each week, then we'd love to hear from you.
We are looking for a number of people for this role so please get in touch even if you are only able to do one journey each week. We have a range of routes which we need regular drivers for journeys are relatively short and would only take a hour or so of your time.

What induction, training and support is offered?

All volunteers at Brightstore receive an initial call and then further induction support and training from the wider Brightstore team. Many of our volunteers are drawn from our membership but this opportunity may appeal to those who haven't been involved with our new and growing organisation. We have a wide range of volunteers. Brightstore can sign post its volunteers to further and more specialist training available through Community and Voluntary sector partners within the city. We can also provide food hygiene, manual handling and first aid training to volunteers who would benefit from this type of training to best deliver their role.
