New Venture Theatre is a long established non-profit making theatre run entirely by volunteers. We have our own (Grade 2 listed) premises in which there are two auditoriums, bar, dressing rooms, workshops and other facilities. We stage up to 10 plays each year and you can find out more at www.newventure.org.uk
What does the opportunity involve doing?
The main purpose of this role is to meet new members joining the New Venture Theatre, to establish a network of those who want to get involved in the acting, backstage or administrative work of the company.
Having determined new members’ skills and interests, the Volunteer Coordinator would introduce them to existing members involved in relevant areas, including acting, lighting, sound, set building, front of house, bar, box office, fundraising, marketing etc. The Volunteer Coordinator will sometimes help those responsible for staging productions to find suitable volunteers from amongst the company membership to help with the many and varied tasks needed to put on a play. To fill certain specific roles within the theatre, the Volunteer Coordinator might, on occasion, advertise outside the company.
What induction, training and support is offered?
There will be a full introduction to the role and theatre from the Committee, with ongoing support from those currently working across the theatre.
What skills or qualities are needed?
Good verbal and interpersonal skills
Good organisational skills
Team working ability
Experience working with volunteers and/or within a theatre would be beneficial but is not essential.
