Blatchington Court Trust (BCT), established in 1995, is an independent, impartial, charity working to promote and support the needs of blind and partially sighted people under the age of 30 who live in Sussex. Our services include educational support where we work with clients to remove barriers to learning at school/college, employment support, provision of assistive technology for home use, counselling and life coaching services, leisure development and outreach development services.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
Our volunteers have the opportunity to choose one area or more that they would like assist us in. These areas are as follows: The Charity Allotment, Events, Service Providers, Over-18 socials, Keep fit volunteer, Mini-bus drivers and Online content creator. The great part about the different areas in which you can help us are that there is something for all ages and certain roles can cater to any accessibility requirements.
What induction, training and support is offered?
All volunteers will be invited to an induction and given sighted guide training. Any specific further training permitted for the role will be given.
What skills or qualities are needed?
Various roles require various skills. Anyone who wishes can assist as at the allotment. We require responsible and reliable people to assist us at events. We require people who can provide a service of their trade/art for us. We require peer mentors for our over-18 socials so that the clients can feel they relate with them and have young person role models. We require anyone willing to help our clients get active for our keep fit role models. We require someone who is able to drive a Mini-bus for the driving role. We require someone who feels they can help add content to our web page and social media for the online content creator.
