We are an arts charity that works with dance professionals and people across the region to make the South East a thriving home for dance.

We support dance artists that specialise in all forms, from breakdancing to ballroom, with funding, tailored advice and networking opportunities throughout their careers. As passionate believers in the health and wellbeing benefits of dance, we also work hard to bring movement to as many people as possible too – particularly those who might not have had the opportunity or the confidence to give it a go before.
In 2022 we opened The Dance Space to the public. Located in the heart of Brighton & Hove, our state of the art dance studio and community hub has been over a decade in the planning and making and we are so excited to welcome every body inside.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
Our Board of Trustees are highly engaged and together offer a wide range of expertise. They oversee all aspects of our work, help ensure we maintain the highest standards in all areas of our activity and support our strategic development.
We are looking to expand our Board of Trustees, and are keen to hear from new voices to enhance our existing expertise. If you have knowledge/experience in the areas of fundraising, income generation or business networks in Brighton & Hove and the South East we would love to hear from you.
You will join a welcoming, committed and skilled group of Trustees who champion and advocate for our work locally and regionally, sharing our passion for dance and the contribution it can make to health, wellbeing and placemaking. Trustees make the key strategic decisions and are involved in monitoring South East Dance’s progress, impact, and contribution to Brighton and the South East region, while fulfilling their governance responsibilities. They work to their individual strengths in the interest of the organisation and contribute to the wider discussion and decision making.

What skills or qualities are needed?
Essential:
Commitment to South East Dance’s mission and values
Experience of income generation and/or nurturing relationships with potential sponsors and donors
Big picture thinker
Proven track record of thinking and acting strategically
Demonstrable commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and willingness to take action to ensure the organisation is representative
Ability to devote sufficient time to fulfil the role effectively
Knowledge of the South East region
Desirable:
Experience of charity governance
An interest in dance and/or the arts/culture sector
Resident/working in Brighton and Hove and/or in the South East region
