The La Di Da Society Volunteer at The La Di Da Society

The La Di Da Society runs daytime cabaret and afternoon tea events for people over 60 years old at The King Alfred Ballroom in Hove.

At each event guests receive an afternoon tea, a glass of bubbly, a raffle ticket and get to watch 2-3 live high quality cabaret performers. Each event runs 12-3pm and has between 200 and 240 older people, we currently run one event per month but hope to increase this later in the year.

The events are lively, friendly and a lot of fun!

What does the opportunity involve doing?

Volunteers are central to running The La Di Da Society and it is such a fun and rewarding experience! We have a wonderful volunteer team and we welcome new members at any time. We have people who volunteer for us occasionally and some who do every event, it is very flexible and there is no ongoing commitment required. We have volunteers of all ages and in fact some of our volunteers started off coming to the events as guests!

The volunteer shift on event days is from 9.15am - 4.30pm and involves setting up the room, serving afternoon tea, dancing, chatting to guests, clearing away and washing up. We provide sandwiches, cakes, bubbly and travel expenses!

We also hold many social events throughout the year, it is a great way to meet new people and make friends.

We have about 25 volunteers at each event, some jobs are all hands on deck and some jobs are pre allocated. We provide travel expenses, food and drink, bubbly and a warm welcome!

We have volunteers of all ages and backgrounds and we welcome any to be part of our team.

The venue is fully accessible.

What induction, training and support is offered?

All volunteers are sent a handbook with an overview of all aspects of the role and relevant policies. New volunteers will be given an induction on their first shift and paired up with an experienced volunteer to show them how things work. We also have a volunteer briefing where we run through systems and how the events run.
