The Rainbow Hub is a local point of contact for LGBTQ+ people seeking up to date help, information or guidance, in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Whether you are seeking local LGBTQ+ social and business information, support with mental health matters or wish to report a hate incident, the Rainbow Hub is here to signpost you to the LGBTQ+ or allied organsations across Brighton. The Rainbow Hub is entirely volunteer run. It is based in the heart of Kemptown on Saint James’s Street, Brighton and is supported by the Rainbow Fund.
Our volunteers provide a welcoming drop-in space to help individuals and where necessary refer them on to one or more of our extensive network of partner organisations for further support. Our space is also open to those partner organisations wishing to reach out to their user base. Recent examples of partner organisations benefitting from this relationship are Rise, The Clare Project, Survivors Network.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
We encourage 2 - 4 hours commitment per week for a minimum of 6 months. Our volunteers provide a welcoming drop-in space to help individuals and where necessary refer them on to one or more of our extensive network of partner organisations for further support. You will work with one other volunteer to support visitors in person or via telephone/email in finding the answer to their query within a safe and non-threatening space. You will use the Hub’s database and online links to support your research, as well as your own experience and knowledge.
In Autumn 2020, the Rainbow Hub is working with local statutory authorities to be a pilot centre for 3rd party reporting of hate incidents. Full training will be given to our volunteers ahead of the project start date.
You will be expected to fully engage with events that the hub is supporting or running with/for our partner organisations. This might be your ideas, suggestions or practical support either at the hub or for city-wide or community-led events, all of which will ensure that the hub maintains its objectives in supporting the LGBTQ+ community. There are additional volunteer opportunities as part of the Rainbow Hub Management Team where you can fully engage with our decision making, using your skills ranging from admin, management, artistic, people, life - just about anything you can offer!
Where able, you are expected to contribute to maintaining a clean, hygienic and Covid19 compliant environment.
