Parent and Toddler group helper at St Andrews (Old) Church Hove

We are a church who welcomes all in the centre of Hove. Every Friday afternoon (term time) from 1-2.45 we run a low-cost (£2 per family) toddler group for families of pre-school children in our Church Hall, called Teddy Andrews. We offer free tea, coffee, a light lunch, music and songs, as well as informal chat and space for children to play.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

We would love to expand our team of volunteers - for shopping, setup, cake making, help on the door, clearing up or simply circulating and offering support. Volunteers will need to be willing to be DBS checked, and may take on any of these roles in isolation or combination. Volunteering can be regular or one off. The group is non-profit making - occasionally we produce a surplus which is returned to the church in lieu of hall rental. We are supported by the Church to use the facilities, and as an outreach to the local community but people of all faiths are welcome and there is no regular worship component.

What induction, training and support is offered?

You will be invited to meet the team, and to see what we do at Teddy Andrews. We will discuss with you what you would like to offer. You will be offered a DBS check and safeguarding training. You will be part of our small team, who support each other and discuss any difficulties which arise, including with our church safeguarding officer who is a part of the team.

What skills or qualities are needed?

Friendliness and approachability.

For setup and clearing away, ability to move boxes and crates.

For cooking and serving - tea and coffee making and simple preparation. If you can make cakes, so much the better!

You will need to abide by safeguarding principles at all times and to be aware of these. We manage the small fees paid by families so honesty and transparency in managing this is also important.
