Migrateful Cookery Class Volunteer at Migrateful

Migrateful is a social enterprise where asylum seekers, refugees and migrants struggling to access employment in the UK due to legal and linguistic barriers, teach their traditional cuisines to the public in cookery classes.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

A unique volunteering opportunity that lets you support migrant chefs and enjoy delicious cuisines from all over the world at the same time.

Our volunteers are most crucial to the work we do. Your support in running our cookery classes enable us to continue the programs we have for the refugees and migrants that belong in the Migrateful family.

If you got a few hours to spare and want to back our chefs and facilitators up as a Migrateful class sidekick, we’d love it if you can volunteer at our evening dinner classes. Classes in Brighton take place on the first 3 Thursdays of every month at the Wild Artisan Cafe, BN1 6EA, 5pm - 10:30pm.

You can volunteer as much as you like. You can be a regular volunteer and if you complete 6 classes in 3 months, we will reward you :-)

As a class sidekick, you will be expected to do tasks that include, but are not limited to:

Helping with set up of the space & cooking stations.
Welcoming participants & ensuring they enjoy themselves.
Keeping stations clear & clean by removing food scraps & cleaning equipment.
Washing up & helping the Facilitator pack up.
Enjoying delicious meal prepared during class!

What induction, training and support is offered?

Classes are run by a Migrateful Chef and a Class Facilitator. They will be there to support you and direct you during the class. You will be asked to read and sign our volunteering policies and procedures before being accepted as a volunteer. If you are signing up as a regular class volunteer you will also be invited to an induction evening that is run once every 12 weeks.

What skills or qualities are needed?

Class volunteers are an essential part of each and every class. In order to run them and support our chefs, we rely on the generosity of people like you as well as....

- Genuine interest in supporting vulnerable migrants and promoting integration
- Commitment and reliability (every dropped volunteer shift costs Migrateful £75)
- Keen sense of initiative, positive attitude & willingness to get your hands dirty
