Who we are
Survivors' Network is the Rape Crisis Centre for Sussex. We are the recognised expert in the area in working with women affected by sexual violence, with over 30 years experience in working with sexual violence and abuse. We provide advocacy, groupwork, helpline & email support and therapeutic services to people who have experienced sexual violence and abuse at any point in their lives, as well as their supporters (family, friends, professionals).
What does the opportunity involve doing?
We are looking for self-identified women, aged 21 or above, to support our Peer Support Group, Online Groups and Helpline & Email Service.  We are looking for people who can primarily volunteer during daytime hours. Our daytime Peer Support Group runs Tuesday 10.30-13.30 and our helpline Wednesdays 11.30-14.30. We are looking for people who can help support these services. Volunteer provide support for our groups and emotional support and signposting on our helpline. 
 Our other services run Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. It may be possible to cover some of these shifts, in addition to the daytime hours. Our helpline and daytime Peer Support Group is run from our Brighton office (please note we have several stairs in this building). 
We ask people applying can commit to volunteering for 12-14 per month. This includes mandatory monthly attendance of group clinical supervision (1.5 hrs every second Tues of the month, online in the evening) and attending the monthly Volunteer Meeting (1 hr every second Tuesday of the month, online in the evening). We ask for a minimum of 3 shifts in addition to supervision and the volunteer meeting. Each shift is 3-hours. 
What induction, training and support is offered?
We provide a 5-day induction training programme, monthly group clinical supervision, support from the Volunteer Services Manager and ongoing training.

All days are 9.30-16.30. You will need to attend all 5 days. Our building has several stairs. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs.
What skills or qualities are needed?
No formal training or experince is required. We do ask for the following:
* A commitment to the aims of Survivors’ Network and the direct service the volunteer will be working on
· Good listening and communication skills and be empathic
· Ability to work as a team member
· Understanding the needs of women survivors of rape/sexual abuse
· Personal qualities reflecting the ability to respond sensitively and non-judgmentally to the practical and emotional content of working with survivors
· Ability to work under pressure and in crisis
· Will not depend on SN services to meet own emotional needs, and a willingness to explore personal issues and face possible change
· Not been a user of the Survivors’ Network services for two years
