Front Office Volunteer at Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project

Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project was set up in 1981 and is a registered charity. We provide practical support, education, advice and much more to those in poverty, in poor living conditions, benefit claimants, the unwaged, pensioners, families and those on low incomes and suffering social exclusion and poor wellbeing.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

The Office Project Volunteers run the busy reception at the Centre which is often the first point of contact for anyone coming into the Centre. Volunteers will provide information to the centre users about activities and services available on the day, answer the door and phone, prepare crisis food parcels, handle cash (donations/laundry/etc.), help with occasional administration/computer work and occasional other tasks.

What induction, training and support is offered?

Volunteers will receive a first general induction from BUCFP staff about our volunteer policies and procedures, and a specific induction for the role they have chosen.
Office volunteers will be paired with experienced volunteers or staff members during the first few weeks of volunteering, so that they will be able to learn their role while doing it and be closely supported.
Additional training will be offered depending on the need of individual volunteers and training opportunities available.

What skills or qualities are needed?

As a volunteer you will need:
Good communication and organisation skills.
Good numeracy and literacy.
To be able to work under stress in a small busy office environment.
