Food Hub Assistant at The Real Junk Food Project Brighton C.I.C

What does the opportunity involve doing?

The Hub in Bevendean is where all the food is sorted, stored and distributed. it literally is the centre of our project. We are particularly looking for strong able-bodied volunteers to help Mon- Friday from midday till 3pm.

Loading / unloading vans for delivery

Sorting through food donations (cleaning, composting and storing)

Portioning and distributing (bagging , weighing, stock rotating)

Staffing the hub shop (assisting customers , taking donations)

Cleaning , tidying & Recycling

This role is particularly suited to someone with high levels of energy and comfortable with lifting and moving crates of vegetables.

What induction, training and support is offered?

Volunteers will be shown around and supported in learning our daily tasks and teamed up with someone experienced.

Once volunteers have settled in to regular routine we will provide Food safety training (level 2) if necessary.

What skills or qualities are needed?

Essential
Strong able bodied (there are always lots of crates of food to move about)
Organised and methodical (always sorting and tidying to be done)
Good Food Hygiene (Basic understanding of hygienic practices)

Desirable
Good communication People skills (some roles involve interacting with the public)
Driving license (It's helpful to have more drivers who can manoeuvre our small delivery vans)
Food safety Certificate Level 2 (We can arrange this if needed)
