Safe Haven Sussex CIC is a non-profit community interest company that provides accommodation and support for vulnerable adults who have been homeless or vulnerably housed. Safe Haven Sussex has 42 houses across the city, ranging from 3-8 bedrooms with shared communal facilities.
We’re looking for volunteers with experience in gardening to help us manage our allotment and support in hosting workshops for our residents.
Our allotment is in Brighton, so we encourage applicants who live locally to apply.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
What you’ll do:
• Planting, weeding, and watering
• Assisting with general upkeep of the allotment site
• Attending sessions alongside residents, encouraging and supporting them to become involved
• Helping to make the allotment a welcoming, positive space for residents and Safe Haven staff
• Transport relevant gardening tools to and from the allotment and office
• Mowing grass and digging where necessary
• Safely handling gardening tools
What induction, training and support is offered?
Induction & Orientation – introduction to the allotment site, safety guidelines, and overview of tasks.
Skill Development – opportunities to develop skills around organic growing and and sustainable gardening practices.
Tool Use & Safety – instruction on safe handling of gardening tools and equipment.
Community & Social Support – opportunities to share knowledge, connect with others, and be part of a welcoming team.
What skills or qualities are needed?
Requirements:
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Experience/ knowledge preferred.
Hours:
We are flexible with regard to what days volunteers would like to attend the allotment and the frequency of this.
