ESOL Volunteer Teacher at Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project

Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project was set up in 1981 and is a registered charity. We provide practical support, education, advice and much more to those in poverty, in poor living conditions, benefit claimants, the unwaged, pensioners, families and those on low incomes and suffering social exclusion and poor wellbeing.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

We are currently looking for more volunteers to join our team of language teachers who teach ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) at beginners and intermediate level.

What induction, training and support is offered?

Volunteers are provided with induction before starting the volunteering about volunteer policy and health and safety requirements; they are then supported and supervised by the Education project leader at the centre and by the volunteer coordinator.

Volunteers get their travel expenses reimbursed (up to £5).

Volunteers are also entitled to have a free meal when kitchen is open and a reference after 3 months of volunteering with BUCFP.

What skills or qualities are needed?

As a volunteer you will need:

Good communication skills.
Commitment to one session per week.
Skills and experience in teaching.
Able to organise and plan a class or course in your area of expertise.
To be patient with people.
