Art in Mind helps raise awareness of mental health through art.
We provide creative workshops for children, young people and adults who have mental health issues in a collaborative and supportive environment.
We provide peer- led mentoring opportunities, which allow young people and adults to deliver mental health themed workshops.
We offer a volunteer programme for 16 - 25 year olds who have had some experience of mental health issues personally or through family or friends.
Volunteers are trained and DBS checked before helping run Art in Mind projects and group sessions.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
Volunteer opportunities are open to 16 - 25 year olds who have experience of mental health issues either personally or through family or friends.
Opportunities include:
Help facilitate and run mental health focused art workshops.
Use art to campaign and raise awareness around mental health issues through exhibition, workshops and resources.
Peer support young people with mental health issues.
Create art, animation and films for social media campaigns to raise awareness of mental health issues.
What induction, training and support is offered?
Volunteers will meet on Thursdays 6 - 8pm and participate in a training programme where they make and create art, as well as, learm about mental health issues, boundaries, disclosure, confidentiality, safeguarding and equal opportunities.
Volunteers will also learn about how to peer support young people and facilitate mental health art themed workshops.
Once training is complete Volunteer's can be a peer supporter during young people sessions, help run mental health themed workshops and create art for mental health awareness raising exhibitions, social media and resources.
What skills or qualities are needed?
Willingness to be creative - you don't have to be good at art.
All art is a form of expression and any art you create you will not be judged
To be non judgemental and accepting of other group members
Show sensitivity empathy to young people with mental health issues
