ADHD Aware is a national member-led charity founded in Brighton that supports adults affected by ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). We offer a mixture of in-person and online peer support groups for adults with ADHD, their partners, and parents of children or young adults with ADHD. Our services also include courses for individuals and couples, neurodiversity training for organisations and online support via member subscription, email, website and social media. We are predominantly run by volunteers.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
Finance Trustee – Make a Real Difference
Join our Board as Finance Trustee and help shape the future of our charity. Your expertise will ensure we remain financially strong and able to deliver life-changing support for adults with ADHD.
What You’ll Do
Be hands-on and responsible for all aspects of the charity's financial management.
Provide financial oversight and guidance to the Board.
Review budgets, accounts, and ensure compliance with charity regulation and governance.
Help us plan for financial sustainability and growth.
Why This Matters
Your skills will directly safeguard resources that empower people with ADHD to thrive. You’ll be part of a passionate team committed to inclusion and positive change.
What We’re Looking For
Experience in charity finance and governance.
Ideally a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
Ability to explain financial matters clearly to non-financial colleagues.
This is a rewarding opportunity to use your expertise for good and make a lasting impact.
What induction, training and support is offered?
The Board of Trustees will make available to each new Trustee, on or before their first appointment:
- a copy of the current version of this constitution; and
- a copy of the charity’s latest Trustees’ Annual Report and statement of accounts.
New Trustees will also be provided with certain policies and procedures which they must review and agree to before their appointment:
- Board Trustees Code of Conduct
- Trustees Declaration of Interests
- Trustee and Volunteer Expenses Policy
- Anti-Harassment and Bullying Policy
- Health and Safety Policy
- Volunteer Grievance Procedures
- Safeguarding Adults at Risk Policy and Procedure with COVID 19 Addendum
- Equality & Diversity Policy
- Data Protection Policy
New Trustees are encouraged to attend some of our monthly peer support groups to familiarise themselves with our work, meet our volunteers and our service users.
Note that we are a small charity with no office or permanent employees, and so Trustees are expected to be proactive, hands-on and involved in the charity's operations as well as its governance. This role is performed primarily remotely, with very occasional meetings in Brighton - for example our AGM is held online one year and in person the next. Travelling expenses are reimbursed for in-person meetings.
N.B. ADHD Aware is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion - we have answered 'no' for Disabled Access and Childcare because we have no premises.
