Principal responsibilities and duties
People
- To work alongside and train Companions to
increase their skill base and confidence
- To organise the day to ensure the store runs
smoothly following the Retail Manager’s lead
- To train, supervise, motivate, and inspire
volunteers and companions
- To ensure that all activities under supervision
are engaging, enabling, empowering, and
holding team members accountable
- To support the learning and skills development of Companions and volunteers
Store operation
- To ensure that customers are dealt with positively, demonstrating excellent customer service
- To ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations by maximising sales
- To ensure day-to-day smooth and productive processes are being implemented to excellent standards for quality, culture, and legislative
compliance
- To ensure premises’ health & safety, security, and maintenance checks and actions are complete within the identified time, and to
identify new checks or actions to schedule to comply with Health and Safety requirements
- To ensure that cover for the safe operation of the store is always sufficient
- To be flexible and cover shifts in other stores when needed
Stock management
- To rotate, label, and display stock as per the Outfit Emmaus procedure
- To ensure the administration and implementation of Gift Aid systems on donated goods to maximise income, following the correct
processes to comply with HMRC requirements, proactively addressing any Gift Aid issues to ensure maximum Gift Aid revenue is achieved
Manoeuvre, lift and carry all items to and from the Warehouse, in and out of buildings
- To lead the Companions and volunteers in ensuring all stock is stored and merchandised appropriately
Safety, Health, and Environment
- To be aware of all health and safety requirements within the store, taking corrective action as and when required, and informing/liaising with managers and team as necessary
- Ensure safe working systems are adhered to in conjunction with the Emmaus policies and procedures, and are compliant with all relevant
legal requirements
- To ensure that health and safety are adhered to in terms of equipment use and that manual handling guidelines are followed
- Ensure work areas follow correct processing procedures, ensuring that the work area is always kept clean and tidy
Special requirements
- Sussex Emmaus runs its business operations five days a week, Tuesday to Saturday. This role is for three days, Thursday, Friday and
Saturday
- To oversee and aid in the lifting of heavy items safely
- A key challenge is balancing our charitable purpose with our social enterprise activities
- A requirement to support Solidarity[1] activities undertaken by the Community
- To lead by example by demonstrating appropriate behaviours, values, and culture
- To learn and engage with the Emmaus ethos as presented in the Universal Manifesto[2] and embodied in the history and experience of all
involved in Emmaus
- All employees are subject to a DBS check
General
- To promote the store activities and stock through the correct Sussex Emmaus social media accounts via imaginative and engaging
posts and reels
- To engage in ideas for promoting the store and developing events beyond the day-to-day running of the shop
- To help display and merchandise stock to best effect across the store
- To be flexible and willing to carry out any other reasonable duties as required
- To play a full role in the Sussex Emmaus Community, fulfilling additional tasks as requested by the management team
- To understand and work in accordance with the principles of Emmaus International and uphold its values and ethos
Experience, skills and attributes Essential Desirable
Competent IT user including Microsoft Office Packages, internet, and email
Coursework in:
Retail, Customer Care, Health and Safety, First Aid
Charity retail experience
Retail and trading law
Recycling or second-hand retail experience
Working with people with complex needs
Working with volunteers
Homelessness issues
