Website, Social Media and Communications Co-ordinator at ARTSPACE BRIGHTON

ArtSpace Brighton is a small arts and mental health charity providing supportive, therapeutic
community-based studio sessions for people with experience of mental health issues. We are run and managed entirely by volunteers and our members (service users) help guide and decide our activities, goals and direction. We provided a wide range of art materials.

As well as creating a safe space for our members, we also are flexible to accommodate individual member's needs. For example, some of our members want to develop their artistic practice and get their work out to an audience, and we have helped create opportunities for this such as guided art workshops, exhibitions, and signposting members to artist grants, which some of our members have been awarded.

Some members wish to go to gallery exhibitions and events, but have felt unable to do this alone, so we provide several group outings to galleries and inspiring places to make art every year.

We also partake in community outreach.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

We are keen to find a volunteer to help with our communications, social media and website, who is familiar with technical aspects and ideally who has knowledge of how we can better connect with the online community, and expand our network.

We need someone who is able to communicate with volunteers, trustees, and members to ensure our activities are regularly shared with others, social media platforms are updated, and that our website is current and reflects the range of activities we undertake, as well as showcasing the work our members produce. We use Squarespace for our website, and post on instagram and facebook, so being familiar with these tools would be particularly helpful.
We envisage this role to take up about 3 - 5 hours per week.
Most of the work can be done in flexible hours to suit, and at home if required, and a lot of communication can be done via email, or telephone. Sometimes you will be asked to come to our studio when it is quiet, to strategise, collaborate or share skills with a member of our team.
If you prefer to not work at home, and what to engage more with our group that is also an option.
The Studio is currently open for 4 days - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Being able to come in on on one of these days occasionally would be great, Friday ideally being the best option as the studio is at it's quietest usually, so our volunteers have more time to collaborate and plan with you.

What induction, training and support is offered?

You will be guided through your role by at least two of our team, and support is also offered if you need extra requirements. The successful applicant(s) will need to have a DBS check (as you will be entrusted with our web passwords), which will be paid for by us.
There will also be a brief run through of our policies (safe guarding, confidentiality etc).
After an induction, DBS check, and being walked through our current social media and communications framework, you will be given tasks such as posting articles on our activities, promoting our organisation, updating our website, and occasionally creating digital flyers (and/ or ones to be printed).
Your input, ideas and expertise is encouraged and supported, and we pride ourselves on be a friendly place where you can feel valued while supporting a necessary, meaningful and beneficial project in the Brighton community.
When travelling to the studio once the role has begun, bus tickets can be reimbursed, or if you drive, we can provide parking permits. Refreshments (a wide selection of teas, coffee, biscuits etc) are also in abundance in the studio!
