Volunteer with ISDF – Events, Media, Technology and Community at International Social Deduction Federation

What does the opportunity involve doing?

We are looking for volunteers to support ISDF’s events, media, technology and community work in Brighton, London and internationally. Opportunities can be matched to your interests, studies, experience, career goals and availability.

Possible roles include:

• Organising casual games, tournaments and international competitions
• Registration, scheduling, venue preparation and welcoming participants
• Social media, marketing and community building
• Photography, filming, livestreaming, video editing, interviewing and live commentary
• Graphic design, posters, branding and visual content
• Website development, programming, data engineering and UX/UI
• Administration, translation, fundraising and partnerships

Volunteers may also help develop digital systems for hosts, moderators and judges, including front-end, back-end and more complex technical features.

This is a flexible, internship-style opportunity for students, graduates, career changers and anyone seeking practical experience. Volunteers can learn from experienced professionals, build a portfolio, improve their CV, gain international exposure, develop confidence and professional connections, and make new friends. Where appropriate, we may provide a reference confirming your contribution.

No previous experience of social deduction games is required. You may help with one-off events, remote projects or longer-term development, and can explore different areas as your skills and confidence grow.

What induction, training and support is offered?

Volunteers will receive an informal induction explaining ISDF, our values, safeguarding expectations, how our events operate and the projects currently available.

We will discuss your interests, existing skills, learning goals and availability so that tasks can be matched to you. You will not be expected to undertake work without suitable guidance or to accept responsibilities you are not comfortable with.

Support may include:

• Guidance from experienced organisers and professionals
• Practical training in event organisation, registration and community engagement
• Support with social media, photography, filming, livestreaming, interviewing, commentary and video editing
• Opportunities to learn graphic design, website development, UX/UI, programming, data or digital systems
• An introduction to social deduction games and their rules

Technical volunteers may receive guidance on front-end, back-end, data or digital-system projects and learn by contributing to real tools used by hosts, moderators and judges.

The commitment is flexible. You may help at one-off events, join regular activities, work remotely or support longer-term projects. We aim to provide meaningful responsibilities, constructive feedback, opportunities to observe experienced people at work and space to develop confidence before taking on more independent tasks.

As volunteers gain experience, they may take on greater responsibility and identify work that can strengthen their CV or portfolio.

What skills or qualities are needed?

We welcome friendly, reliable and enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy learning, working with others and helping build an inclusive international community.

Useful skills or interests may include:

• Communication, organisation, event planning and logistics
• Administration, writing, translation and fundraising
• Social media, marketing and community engagement
• Photography, filming, video editing and livestreaming
• Presenting, interviewing and live commentary
• Graphic design, branding and visual communication
• Website development, programming, data engineering and UX/UI

You do not need all of these skills, and previous professional experience is not required. We welcome both specialists and beginners who are keen to learn through practical experience.

Depending on the role, it is helpful to be:

• Respectful of people from different backgrounds
• Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
• Creative, curious and willing to solve problems

Some roles involve interacting with participants or appearing on camera, while others can be completed behind the scenes or remotely. An interest in games, community activities, technology, media or international events is welcome but not essential.

We particularly value people who communicate clearly, treat others with kindness and patience, and are willing to ask questions and learn.
