Trustee

Gladrags is looking for Trustees who believe creativity can build stronger communities.

For over 30 years, Gladrags has combined creativity, costume reuse and community connection to support schools, theatre groups, community organisations and people experiencing hardship. Through subsidised costume hire, textile reuse and creative community projects, we are instrumental in keeping garments and materials in circulation while making arts and culture more accessible locally.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

Reflecting the growth of this small, successful charity, Gladrags Community Costume Resource are looking to recruit up to three additional Trustees. You would be joining a small team of part-time staff and 40 trained volunteers, on whom we depend to maintain our collection of 8000 pre-loved costumes and artefacts.
Our trustees play an important role in helping the charity stay financially resilient, community-rooted and true to its values as we continue to grow.

We also know that life experience and community understanding offer valuable expertise. We warmly welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds who feel connected to our mission and believe they could contribute to the future of Gladrags.

Previous trustee experience is not essential. We are keen to build a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities we work with.

What induction, training and support is offered?

Your impact as a trustee will enable us to develop key areas, share expertise, help us reflect and move forward. Trustees meet 4 to 6 times a year, and work with our Director and management team to set the strategic direction of the organisation, monitor budgets, and govern operations.

Expertise in the following areas are of particular interest: income generation, property, business or marketing; policy and governance; the arts industry; the voluntary sector. Because we acknowledge the value of life-experience alongside professional skills, we are equally keen to hear about other knowledge and skills that you feel you could contribute.

Trustees give their time on a voluntary basis, as required by charity law and we are looking for people who are able to be proactive and commit time in between meetings to share expertise and give advice (equivalent to half a day a month). We’re passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values equality for volunteers and workers alike. and work hard to create an environment where everyone, from any background, can do their best work.

If our mission and purpose resonate with you, join us in shaping the next chapter of the Gladrags journey.
