Community Lunch Chef at Lovebrook Cic

Lovebrook is a multifaceted, ecological project based on a beautiful 33 acre farm in Kingston near Lewes. We are a non-profit, community organisation and we run a wide variety of horticultural and therapeutic activities for people from the local areas. These include volunteer days, market gardening, tree planting, ecotherapy courses, movement and wellbeing days, and more.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

Do you love cooking with freshly grown, organic produce?
Can you feed a crowd of up to 20 people?
Do you want to spend more time outdoors in community?
Then maybe you would like to come and join us on the cooking team at Lovebrook!

We host community volunteer days at the farm every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. We share tasks on the land, ranging from tree planting, herbal remedy making, market gardening, building projects, permaculture work and more. Then we share a delicious vegetarian lunch, cooked with food from the land and other organic produce. Lunch is always highlight of the session!

As our community days grow in popularity, we are looking to develop the team that prepare and cook lunch, involving more people and developing a consistent rota of help throughout the year.
If you are a confident cook, and can prepare simple. nourishing food for a crowd, in our covered outdoor kitchen then we would love to hear from you

What induction, training and support is offered?

You would initially shadow one of our current chefs, so you get to understand the outdoor kitchen facilities, the systems and simple food we offer.
Training would be from one of the directors of the project, ensuring you had full understanding and support in the role to ensure you can carry it out effectivley.
We also offer additional volunteer help to assist the main chef on busy lunch days, so there are always plenty of hands on deck to create a nourishing meal for the rest of the group.

What skills or qualities are needed?

An interest in cooking with fresh, organic produce from our market garden
An ability to create a large soup/stew for around 20 people
An understanding of health and safety with regard to cooking for a group
