We are a community project based in Moulsecoomb, Bevendean, and Bates Estate which is building a local, resilient food system. We run a weekly community fridge where members can get an affordable shop and help end food waste. We also regularly run fun events like our farm trips, cooking workshops, and community meals.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
In this role you would:
- ☕️ welcome members into the fridge by offering a tea, coffee, or water
- 🧼 helping to keep the space clean and tidy alongside the community manager
- 🥦 talk to members about their food shop and help answer any questions
Benefits of volunteering include:
- 🥖going home with a shop from the fridge
- 🥕a space to chat about food, recipes, seasonal veg, and all other food related fun with neighbors and members
- free food safety and hygiene training
- get involved in a local community project and help your neighbours
What induction, training and support is offered?
The first session of volunteering will set you up with everything that you need to know about the project. We will introduce you to how the community fridge is run, show you around our pantry, fridge, and freezer. We will let you know about your key responsibilities and how to help. Primarily, you'll get to know the manager you will be working with and the members you will be able to chat with regularly.
After that, we will make sure you have access to free food safety and Hygiene training (online) as part of the role.
What skills or qualities are needed?
Being friendly and chatty with members, being open to talk about the food you are cooking or growing, happy to help with light cleaning and organising
