We're a thriving community theatre with a wonderful premises in the heart of Brighton. For nearly 80 years, we've been providing exciting theatrical experiences for cast, crew and audiences alike. We pride ourselves on our high standards, our affordability, and our community spirit. We stage ten productions a year across our two theatres, offer weekly acting classes, champion new writing through our writers group, and actively develop our volunteers' skills across the theatrical spectrum. What does the opportunity involve doing?
As Bookkeeper for our wonderful theatre, you'll be supported by the Treasurer as you take responsibility for the monthly accounting for the theatre as a whole. This will include analysing payments and receipts, settling invoices, and keeping appropriate records. Most of your duties may be carried out remotely, if desired, or you can volunteer from the office at the theatre. If you have around 25 - 30 hours a month to spare, you're great at maths, and you're keen to join a community of friendly, passionate volunteers, this could be the role for you.
What induction, training and support is offered?
Over the course of several weeks or months, you'll receive a comprehensive handover from our lovely Treasurer. At first, you'll shadow them to gain a full understanding of what's required, then they'll shadow you, offering as much support as you need until you're ready to take the reins.
What skills or qualities are needed?
As Bookkeeper, you'll have a love of numbers (and spreadsheets!), a forensic attention to detail, and great organisational skills. You'll have strong communication skills, and be keen to join a team of friendly, passionate volunteers. This role will be a great fit for a trainee accountant looking for experience, a retiree with bookkeeping or accounting skills, or a self-proclaimed maths geek with time to spare, and a desire to be part of a wonderful community of people.
