Conversant Interpreters

Conversant is a collective of five NRCPD-registered British Sign Language/English interpreters based in Brighton & Hove. We are not an agency — you book directly with an individual interpreter. Work covers healthcare, mental health, conference, academic and arts settings across Sussex and the UK.

Conversant is a collective of five independent, NRCPD-registered British Sign Language/English interpreters — Jill Blackadder, Sharon Cox, Dr Sue MacLaine, Marco Nardi and Mark Schofield — based in Brighton & Hove and working across Sussex, the UK and internationally.
We are not an agency. We've come together because we share a commitment to excellent, reliable and ethical work. Each of us has our own profile on the site, introduced in BSL with English text and audio alongside, and you book directly with the interpreter you want.
Our combined experience covers NHS and healthcare appointments, mental health and therapeutic settings, conferences and political platform work, academia and higher education, theatre, museums and the visual arts, community settings, Access to Work, and International Sign for multilingual events.
Content on the site is presented in British Sign Language with accompanying spoken and written English, and the site is built to WCAG 2.2 AA.
