Job Summary
The Service Manager is responsible for managing a team of project staff to provide high quality mental health services, ensuring that services reflect best practice and are in accordance with Mind in Brighton and Hove’s (MiBH) policies and procedures. The Service Manager will develop the team’s aims and objectives in such a way that they contribute to MiBH’s mission and deliver on business plan objectives. They will work closely with other agencies, delivering services in partnership and identifying opportunities for service development.
Main Duties
Service Delivery and Evaluation
Ensure all services are client focused and promote service user involvement
Understand contracts and ensure all services are delivered in accordance with contract requirements and take appropriate action to address underperformance
Ensure all services are of high quality and represent best practice
Develop and maintain effective reporting, recording and monitoring systems
Use information appropriately to produce relevant, timely internal and external reports
Analyse information to evaluate performance and make recommendations for service improvements
Manage complaints made about service delivery and action any learning outcomes
Work towards achieving and maintaining quality standards in line with the Mind Quality Mark and relevant external quality marks/accreditations
Managing Staff and Volunteers
Undertake effective line management including regular supervision and annual appraisal
Recruit, induct and motivate staff and volunteers
Work with staff to identify their learning and development needs and put appropriate plans in place
Promote staff wellbeing
Ensure regular, effective and professional team meetings
Ensure that the team work in collaboration with other teams across the organisation
Responsible for health and safety, including safeguarding, risk assessment, lone working and adequate out of hours arrangements for staff and volunteers
Resource Management
Responsible and accountable for the effective management of financial and human resources
Work in accordance with MiBH’s HR and Finance Policies and Procedures
Develop and set realistic annual operational budgets and ensure appropriate expenditure and that services are delivered within budget
Complete required procedures and documentation for new staff and contract changes for current staff and communicate with colleagues in respect of information for payroll/HR
Responsible for day-to-day HR administration for the team including managing and recording sickness absence, annual leave, cover arrangements and training etc. and communicate with the Head of Services, in respect of HR reporting requirements
Service Development
Responsible for the improvement and development of MiBH’s services, in line with service user’s needs, the organisation’s strategy and business plan and commissioning context
Identify development opportunities and progress them in accordance with MiBH’s service development procedures
Work with the Head of Services on proposals in response to funding opportunities
Implement and manage new initiatives, service improvements and other developments
Relationship Management
Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with other staff, volunteers, management colleagues and trustees
Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with partner organisations, commissioners, funders, national Mind and other local Minds
Responsible for effective liaison with external stakeholders including funders and commissioners, attending contract and performance reviews, steering groups and representing MiBH at other meetings and events
Organisational Responsibilities
Work in accordance with MiBH’s aims, objectives and values
Contribute to the development and improvement of and ensure compliance with all MiBH’s Policies and Procedures
Promote the work of MiBH and positive understanding, awareness and attitudes towards mental health
Contribute to the development of MiBH’s Strategy and Annual Business Plan and translate agreed priorities into individual staff objectives
Work flexibly to best meet the needs of the service/organisation, which may include undertaking occasional evening and weekend work
