Community Base reception acts as point of contact for the 35 charities based in the building, for our room hire and postal address customers, and for users of our online searches (community jobs, volunteering, and venues). Community Base reception also provides in-person signposting to local community services to around 1,000 drop-in visitors a year.

Community Base is a charity providing a home for community and voluntary groups in Brighton and Hove and services to the local community. We use income from affordable services, including the provision of our office space and meeting rooms, to meet the running costs on our accessible seven-floor building a few minutes from Brighton station.

ABOUT YOU
We are looking for a smart, confident and friendly person who is organised with excellent communication skills and phone manner. You will be responsible for the smooth running of our Reception. You will be welcoming but firm when needed and ensure that correct procedures are followed.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key responsibilities:
• Ensure that Reception is well maintained and opens and closes on time.
• Provide a friendly and approachable welcome to visitors.
• Provide up-to-date information and assistance to visitors (including information on the way that services in the building operate).
• Put visitors in contact with groups at Community Base as and when required.
• Provide signposting information on local services to members of the public on a wide range of issues.
• Facilitate the use of the Brighton and Hove Volunteer Search by people hoping to volunteer.
• Respond to issues raised by tenants where appropriate and assist in dealing with building management issues.
• Carry out other administrative duties as required.
Key attributes and competencies:
• Excellent communication skills and experience of working within a charity or community group.
• Well-developed administrative skills with the ability to handle a busy, varied workload and to cope with interruptions and changes.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure, meet set deadlines and pay meticulous attention to detail completing tasks fully, accurately and on time, prioritising where appropriate.
• IT literate and conversant with Microsoft Office 365.
• Excellent telephone manner.
• Ability to deal with confidential information or situations in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
• A problem-solving approach to work.
• Able to work independently and also as part of a team to help and support colleagues.
• Professional, courteous and trustworthy.
• Ability to work flexible hours with some evening and weekend work for events.
• Commitment to social and environmental issues.
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week worked Monday to Friday, 08:30 until 16:30
Pay: £26,227 - £27,000 depending on experience.
