CHIEF OFFICER - POSSABILITY PEOPLE
Possability People is a user-led pan-impairment disability charity based in Brighton & Hove and working across Sussex. For more than 40 years, we’ve worked alongside disabled people to remove barriers, provide practical support and help people have choice and control over their lives.
We’re now looking for an experienced and values-led Chief Officer to lead the organisation into its next chapter.
This is an important time for PP. We have a strong local identity, committed staff and volunteers, and a wealth of experience across the organisation. Our new Chief Officer will build on that foundation while providing the strategic direction, financial focus and visible leadership needed for the future.
THE ROLE
Working closely with the Trustee Board and Senior Leadership Team, you’ll help shape and deliver a clear, realistic strategy for the next three years.
You’ll provide overall leadership across the organisation, with responsibility for financial sustainability, services, people and culture, organisational development, governance and our external profile.
A key part of the role will be strengthening PP’s financial resilience. You’ll work closely with our Finance Manager and wider leadership team to understand the financial picture, make informed decisions about resources and develop a more diverse and sustainable income base.
You’ll also help us make sure that our services continue to meet people’s needs, remain financially viable and deliver meaningful impact. That means being prepared to ask difficult questions, make difficult decisions and focus our resources where they can have the greatest impact.
LEADERSHIP AT POSSABILITY PEOPLE
We’re looking for a leader who is visible, approachable and collaborative.
You’ll work with staff, volunteers, Trustees and people who use our services to understand what matters, build trust and bring people with you through change. You’ll need to be comfortable listening before acting, while also having the confidence to make decisions and maintain momentum.
As a user-led organisation, lived experience is fundamental to how we work. You’ll understand the importance of disabled people’s expertise and contribution and ensure this remains central to organisational decision-making.
LOOKING BEYOND THE ORGANISATION
We want our next Chief Officer to be an active ambassador for Possability People.
You’ll build relationships across Brighton & Hove, Sussex and beyond, developing connections with commissioners, funders, NHS and local authority partners, employers, voluntary-sector organisations and local communities.
You’ll help us tell a compelling story about the difference we make and identify opportunities to increase our reach, influence and impact.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll be an experienced senior leader with a track record of strategic leadership, organisational development and leading through change. You’ll have a strong understanding of financial sustainability and experience of developing income, managing resources and making sound organisational decisions.
You’ll be able to move comfortably between the strategic and the practical: seeing the bigger picture while understanding what needs to happen to turn plans into action.
You’ll also bring excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to represent us externally and the ability to work constructively with Trustees, colleagues, partners and communities.
Most importantly, you’ll share our commitment to a user-led approach and to improving the lives of disabled people.
WHY JOIN US?
This is an opportunity to lead an established local charity at an important point in its development.
There is already a lot to build on: committed people, established services, strong local relationships and decades of experience. We’re looking for someone who can recognise that strength while bringing fresh thinking, strategic focus and energy to what comes next.
