Salary: £24,479 (pro-rata) Actual Salary: £4,895
Location: Brighton & Hove (based at Speak Out’s offices with some home working)
Reporting to: Self-Advocacy Team Leader

Help create a safe and empowering space for LGBTQ+ people with learning disabilities and autistic people
Brighton & Hove Speak Out is looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and organised person to support a new LGBTQ+ Self-Advocacy Group for people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people who identify as LGBTQ+.

This is an exciting opportunity to help establish and develop a new user-led group where members can build confidence, develop self-advocacy skills, connect with others, influence change and have their voices heard.

Working as part of our Self-Advocacy Team, you will support members to take ownership of the group, identify issues that matter to them, build their knowledge and confidence, and create opportunities to campaign, influence services and participate in community events such as Brighton Pride.

About the role

You will:
• Set up, coordinate and support a fortnightly LGBTQ+ self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
• Promote the group and engage new members through outreach and community networking.
• Support members to develop confidence, skills and leadership opportunities.
• Foster a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone's voice is valued.
• Build relationships with local LGBTQ+ and learning disability organisations.
• Support members to identify issues important to them and take collective action where appropriate.
• Manage group administration, monitoring and evaluation requirements.
• Help ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the group.

About you

We're looking for someone who:
• Has a strong commitment to empowerment, inclusion and self-advocacy.
• Has experience working with people who are marginalised or face barriers to participation.
• Has a good understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and the diverse experiences of LGBTQ+ people.
• Can facilitate inclusive groups where members have diverse support needs, and build positive, respectful relationships.
• Has excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
• Understands the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and equality.
Experience of working alongside people with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from people with transferable skills and a genuine commitment to the values of self-advocacy and inclusion.
