What does the opportunity involve doing?

We welcome applications from trans, non-binary, gender-diverse, and/or intersex adults (18+). This is an occupational requirement for the legitimate aim of TNBI lead support.

No prior trustee experience is required. We actively welcome first-time trustees and provide a thorough induction, ongoing peer mentoring, and free training (including governance, anti-racism, and transmisogyny awareness). Your lived experience, shared values, and commitment to our community are what matter most.

We recognise that charity boards must reflect the communities they serve. The Clare Project is dedicated to dismantling structural barriers to participation.

Intersecting Identities: We actively encourage applications from TNBI community members who hold intersecting experiences, including people experiencing racial inequity, transmisogyny-affected people, disabled or neurodivergent adults, older adults, and working-class community members.

Time Commitment: Approximately 3 hours per month (includes quarterly board meetings, occasional training, visiting community activities, and supporting staff/volunteers).

Location: Hybrid / Flexible (Meetings are held online, with options for in-person events in Brighton & Hove and Sussex).

What skills or qualities are needed?

As a trustee, you will guide our strategic direction, amplify community voices, and help sustain our support for hundreds of TNBI adults across Sussex.
We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with skills or interest in:
Finance or Accountancy: Budgeting, financial oversight, bookkeeping, or interest in a Treasurer role.
Legal, Risk, or Charity Governance: Compliance, policy, risk, or organizational oversight.
