RISE is a Sussex-based charity that supports people affected by domestic abuse and violence.
Our vision is: ‘Freedom from Abuse and Violence’
RISE stands for Refuge, Information, Support and Education.
RISE is a feminist, women-led and centred domestic violence and abuse charity that has worked for 30+ years to end all forms of violence and abuse against women, their families and those identifying as LGBT+.
RISE offers strength-based, trauma-informed services and is committed to providing accessible, fair, and safe services to survivors of violence and abuse, including women of all ages, children, young people, Trans and Non-binary people, Lesbians and Bisexual women, Gay and Bisexual men, Black and minoritised women, women with religious affiliations or none, Disabled women and other minoritised women.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
Are you a feminist leader with experience in any of these sectors: public sector; private sector; youth/student societies or organisations; commercial or charitable organisations? We also welcome interest from those with direct experience of domestic violence and/or abuse. The Board is currently looking for more expertise in HR, finance and property development/management - but lack of these areas of expertise should not deter applicants qualified in other ways or committed to our cause.
Our Board members come from all walks of life and bring a passion for ending violence and abuse against women, children, and LGBT people. We are keen to ensure greater diversity on our Board and welcome applications from a wide range of women who would help us better reflect and serve our potential and current service users.
Trustee roles are open to women only*. They are voluntary with paid expenses. You are eligible to apply if you are over the age of 18.
*This post is open to female applicants only as being female is deemed to be a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010
What induction, training and support is offered?
Full induction will be provided.
What skills or qualities are needed?
Experience in any of these sectors: public sector; private sector; youth/student societies or organisations; commercial or charitable organisations? We also welcome interest from those with direct experience of domestic violence and/or abuse.
