Project Leader at Angling4Education

This is an exciting opportunity to work for an innovative and highly respected youth organisation delivering a variety of Alternative Education progarmmes. We are specifically looking to expand our team in the northern team (Crawley/Haywards Heath, Horsham) and the Western team (Chichester/Bognor) due to popular demand. The role will entail delivering one-to-one intensive support and developmental group work for KS1-KS4 mostly during term time, within school hours.

Angling4Education are currently commissioned by over 90 schools and other organisations to deliver highly effective, activity based Alternative Education Provision across Brighton and West Sussex. Activities include bushcraft/beach craft, fishing, navigation, art, sport, cooking and animal care etc.
Our provision has a proven track record at reducing fixed term exclusions and preventing permanent exclusion, supporting successful transitions, increasing school attendance, addressing school refusal, raising academic attainment, improving behaviour, developing soft skills such as teamwork, communication and anger management.

Job Description

• Support children and young people with issues such as: emotional & behavioural difficulties, mental health, low school attendance/school refusal, low academic attainment and social isolation
• Working within a small team to ensure our provision is innovative, effective and inspiring.
• Help participants achieve emotional well-being and expand their emotional literacy to enable them to become more effective individuals.
• Supporting children and young people who have been excluded or at risk of exclusion from school.
• Work with children and young people in both one to one and group settings
• Assist in the organisation’s drive to ensure our interventions are outcome-focused and evidence-based.
• To support participants to build skills which will enable them to grasp opportunities and overcome barriers in everyday life.
• Use a variety of interventions to change the way participants feel about themselves and build social, emotional and practical skills.

Person Specification

Knowledge of:
• Understanding of EBD
• Challenging behaviour
• Safeguarding of vulnerable children
• Working with varied ages throughout childhood ranging between 6 - 18
• Health and safety practices and regulation
• How outdoor learning can enhance the development of children and young people
• Awareness of children and young people’s complex needs
• Commitment to equal opportunities
• Interventions that build children and young people’s social and emotional skills

Experience:

• Experience working with challenging behaviour
• Working in one to one and group settings
• Working independently
• Working in an activity based learning role
• Some experience of working with children/young people with disabilities would be desirable

Personal Qualities:

• Self starter/independent worker
• Flexible and open to adapting the way you work in order to achieve the best outcomes
• Passionate and driven to develop and deliver highly effective interventions
• Good social skills in order to communicate with other professional networks
• Confident IT skills to use emails and write updates and reports
• Tolerance and understanding of the complex nature of many of the children and young people we work with and how these complexities may play out in their behaviour.

Relevant qualification desirable but not essential
This job requires an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check to be carried out
Driving Licence
