Volunteering Matters is on a mission to create a brighter future for communities across the UK through the power of volunteering. For over 60 years, we’ve been turning local knowledge into action by working with volunteers and partners.
Healthlink is a Brighton-based project supporting older people to attend vital health and wellbeing appointments. Whether it’s a GP visit, hospital check-up, dentist appointment, or even a regular wellbeing group, Healthlink volunteers are there to offer support and encouragement.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
Health appointments are crucial for staying well, but we know that getting there, navigating the journey, or remembering everything said during an appointment can be stressful or overwhelming, especially alone.
Our volunteers accompany beneficiaries – on foot, or by bus, taxi or patient transport – and provide support, connection and care, often during the appointment itself.
We’re looking for compassionate and committed people to join our team and help older people maintain their wellbeing. This is a rewarding, flexible role suitable for people who cannot make regular weekly commitments.
What induction, training and support is offered?
We will provide:
Full training for the role.
Regular support and guidance from the Lifelines team.
We will also provide you with technical support and advice as required.
Reimbursement for all out-of-pocket expenses.
Opportunities to meet and socialise with other volunteers.
The chance to use your skills and experience to improve the lives of others.
A reference confirming the work you have done.

• An interest in working with older people
• Ability to provide encouragement and support in a sensitive and caring manner, to people from a variety of backgrounds
• Flexibility and able to use own initiative
