YMCA DownsLink Group works to prevent youth homelessness and improve young people's mental health and wellbeing across Sussex and Surrey. A charity, we provide supported accommodation, youth advice centres, counselling and family mediation. Each year we support over 10,000 children, young people and families.
YMCA Right Here is an Award-winning, youth-led health and wellbeing project for young people aged 11-25. The project runs campaigns, studies, an online directory, works in schools and colleges as well as creating informative social media content for our young followers.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
YMCA Right Here is looking for a Volunteer Social Media Specialist aged 26+ to join the team!
We are looking for a social media expert to offer 3 hours per week to support a small group of young people via a weekly 1 hour zoom meeting, to create content for Instagram and Facebook.
You will be responsible for hosting a weekly 1 hour meeting with a small number of young volunteers aged 16-25, discussing themes and topics of interest based around health and wellbeing, and steering the young people towards social media planning and content creation, which you may be able to support them with.
You will need to be an adult over the age of 26, with demonstrable knowledge of social media, Instagram and Facebook specifically. An interest and understanding of health and wellbeing is essential as well as an interest in youth work and youth involvement. Training will be offered to the volunteer around this aspect of the role.
Should you wish to, we would welcome the you to offer group training around graphics and or social media content creation to our young people.
This is a new volunteering role and there is flexibility in the way that we run and manage our social media, however, we will need to adhere to the policies and procedures of YMCA DLG throughout.
What induction, training and support is offered?
Volunteers will be offered a thorough induction, as well as training and support throughout their time with YMCA DLG. There will also be additional opportunities to get involved with wider YMCA DLG activities and build experience with the wider organisation.
What skills or qualities are needed?
