Our Aims
To provide a social space for LGBTQ+ people and their allies. We hope that this will address the loneliness and isolation many in our community face, as well as providing a sober LGBTQ+ space that operates during the day.
To promote LGBTQ+ work. Through our gallery and bookable spaces we aim to ensure LGBTQ+ people have somewhere to showcase and promote their work, creative or otherwise.
To support LGBTQ+ wellbeing. We aim to address as many issues as we can and to hold space for everyone else in our community doing incredible things.
Our space includes a café, gallery and cinema as well as several bookable meeting rooms and (soon to be) a community kitchen for preparing and sharing food together.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
We are always seeking volunteers and have a number of roles:
Reception – meeting and greeting visitors, directing people to where they need to be, answering the phone. This is our most physically accessible role, so if you have mobility requirements but would still like to be involved, we’d love to have you!
Centre Host - meeting & greeting visitors & providing general support to reception, & gallery host & support Centre Managers
Café – making coffee, serving food and chatting with people in the cafe. We provide full training.
We aim for volunteering to be fun and sociable and are happy to adapt responsibilities to volunteers needs and abilities. Volunteers are never expected to work alone – there is always a paid staff member present while the centre is open to the public.
We ask that volunteers be able to commit to two shifts per month.
If you’d like to volunteer, please get in touch with us at volunteers@ledcen.org.uk
