Voluntary Meet and Greeter at Relate

Relate is a charity providing relationship support throughout the United Kingdom. Services include counselling for couples, families, young people and individuals, sex therapy, mediation and training courses. Relate also offers online services including webcam counselling and a therapeutic based LiveChat service.

Relate urgently needs Voluntary Meet and Greeters at our counselling venues in
Brighton and Hove. Our services include Relationship and Individual Counselling, Psychosexual Therapy, Family Therapy and Mediation.

We run a rota system and any help you can give, however small, would be greatly appreciated.

Main purpose of the voluntary role - To provide an efficient meet and greet service, acknowledging the sensitivity and confidentiality required as the first point of contact for Relate clients.

Key Tasks

Be present in the counselling venue premises at all times when counselling is taking place
Welcome clients arriving for appointments in a friendly and professional manner and ensure they depart following completion of the counselling session
Always deal with clients in a confidential, sympathetic and professional manner with a focus on customer care
When required supply documentation and forms to clients for them to complete and sign as appropriate. Ensure these forms are kept secure until they are passed to the counsellor.
Liaise with counsellors regarding queries about appointments.
Know at all times who else is on the premises and their approximate location
Contribute to the good housekeeping of the premises, in particular to ensure that counselling rooms and the waiting room are tidy and stocked with appropriate materials and literature.
General admin tasks such as filing and photocopying.

Full induction and training provided. Regular support and supervision from the team and Managers.

What skills or qualities are needed?

Essential criteria

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to work effectively on your own, but also a committed team player

Reliable and punctual

A flexible and positive approach

Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimum direct supervision


Experience of working/volunteering in/with a charity

Experience of working/volunteering with people in distress
