We work with young people to move them from crisis to stability. We provide a space for 16-to-25-year olds who are homeless where they can feel safe and 'just be', whilst also getting access to services and support.

We provide the everyday things that young homeless people need, like somewhere to shower, do laundry, eat a healthy meal, use computers and get post.

By helping to meet these practical needs, young homeless people can focus on their futures and potential.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we cannot currently offer drop-in/walk up services at the day centre but we are still supporting young people - details are on our website.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

The Clock Tower Sanctuary is the only drop-in day centre for 16-25-year-olds in Brighton & Hove for young people experiencing homelessness. The input of a strong Board is key to our development, in shaping and defining our strategy and supporting our staff team. The current Board has a robust mix of skills. To help us develop our offer to young people, we are now looking for candidates with specialist experience in mental health; fundraising & public affairs.

The Board meets six times per year: four early-evening meetings and two away-days. These meetings are usually held in person, in Brighton, though Covid-19 has caused us to move all meetings online. The Board has two committees: Finance and Governance & Risk. These committees meet four times per year to look at a range of issues in more detail. We would expect new Trustees to join one of these committees. Dates and times are flexible, based on the attendees’ availability. Trustees are given a full induction and are able to claim reasonable expenses to enable them to carry out their duties.

Trustees are given a full induction, training and are able to claim reasonable expenses to enable them to carry out their duties.
