Treasurer at Nurture through Nature

Nurture Through Nature grows vegetables with volunteers on allotment plots at Moulsecoomb allotments on Natal Road, BN2. We work with a variety of volunteers including university students. Volunteers enjoy a chance to be outdoors, getting exercise and learning about growing veg. We donate the produce to Brighton Unemployed Families Centre food bank and City Mission food bank,

What does the opportunity involve doing?

We are looking for a trustee to join our group of three. We are a CIO with a board of three and two self employed part time staff. Our income is around £15-20 thousand a year mainly in small grants. We meet a number of current local and national aims for involving people in nature for well being, promoting healthy lifestyles and promoting vegetables as part of a healthy diet and we are part of Brighton and Hove Food partnership.
The board meets three to four times a year to keep the organisation on track, plan for the future, monitor income and expenditure and ensure the organisation complies with the law.
We are a small and friendly charity. We are looking to keep going and get better. The role of the treasurer is to understand and guide the finances of the organisation - eg advice to the administrator on working with the accountant and helping fellow board members analyse our income and expenditure and so it's a key role for the organisation.

What induction, training and support is offered?

Informal induction and training and support to find more formal training if required and wanted. The role would suit someone with an interest in financial oversight keen to direct their own learning or someone with some experience of charity finances wanting an interesting and not too onerous charity board role.
