Social Media Volunteer

Support adults with Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism and their parents, partners or carers by providing advice, information, resources, education, social inclusion, volunteering opportunities and support to improve well-being and reduce isolation.

We also seek to raise awareness of the condition, including the many positive aspects.

Assert is a member- led organisation; both individuals and organisations can become members of Assert and support the work that we undertake.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

The Social Media volunteer will be to promote, develop and maintain our online presencein order to maximise our impact and to promote ourselves as widely as possible to the localcommunity.

Key Tasks
-Help create and maintain a social media plan
-Use social media to promote the activities and achievements of Assert
-Keeping our social media channels updated on a frequent basis
-Encouraging others to comment on our posts and share them with others
- Ensure that communication reaches a wide range of local stakeholders and diverse audience
-Develop and manage content for our website and social media, such as Twitter & Facebook
-Select relevant channels to reach our diverse audiences
-Track the effectiveness of our social media work and recommend ways forward.
-Test content and review its impact.
-Develop publicity materials and communication techniques to target communities who are under-represented
-Attending our projects and activities with a view to writing articles about them on our website

What induction, training and support is offered?

Our initial volunteer training is open to the candidate that will cover a bit about the organisation and autism. However the successful candidate will need a good understanding and working knowledge of social media and how best to utilise the various platforms for the good of our charity. There is the opportunity for further, role specific training if this is identified as needed in the future.

What skills or qualities are needed?

Essential/desired skills;

- An understanding of different types of marketing and communications media, including electronic and social media.
- To be able to communicate effectively, be articulate, with strong writing skills and the ability to feedback accurately
- Experience of using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
-Ability to transform small snippets of information into interesting and engaging stories suitable for Twitter, Facebook etc.
-Good understanding of confidentiality and the ability to work equally well in a team and unsupervised
-An interest in, knowledge of or willingness to learn about autism
