Mental Health Support Volunteer

The Archway Project is a 24-hour residential service comprising of a five and a nine bed house, for people with mental health support needs.
We take a recovery and person-centred focus, enabling residents to move on to more independent living.
We are looking for volunteers to join our friendly team in Hove to offer their time, skills and experience to our residents.
All volunteers are provided with supervision and training.

This is what our client said about the support he receives from a volunteer:
‘The volunteer is such a terrific guy. You can have a laugh with him but his also a good listener. He gives useful advice and helps me towards my goals such as dealing with my voices and going out. When I had really bad voices He spent time with me and helped me calm down’

What does the opportunity involve doing?

We are looking for volunteers who are confident in organising and running activities, empathic, friendly and good listeners whilst being able to maintain professional boundaries and time keeping. We take a lead from our residents as to the type of activities we offer, such as: going out for tea and cake, helping with shopping or other life skills, baking, day trips, playing croquet and other activities. Ideally volunteering with us will provide you with the opportunity to bring your own hobbies and skills to help facilitate groups activities. However, it is not essential for you to be qualified in group work or particular group skills, just that you have confidence to facilitate a group such as colouring or cooking.

What induction, training and support is offered?

BHT provide service wide induction training sessions. Archway, we provide a 2 week induction on site with staff where you will learn about how the project runs and your role as volunteer within it.
