We provide community interpreters for health and social care appointments across Sussex. In Brighton and Hove we also offer additional Social prescribing and Bilingual Advocacy services.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
SIS (Sussex Interpreting Services) is recruiting and training Volunteer Linguists in Brighton and Hove to use their experience, understanding and influence to help people with language needs to be able to navigate the health and social care system and lead healthier lives.
Volunteer Linguists will….
? staff our drop-in, linking people to specialist health and social support services
? help with making appointments, reading letters, filling in forms
? represent communities by offering feedback about services
? accompany people to a new social group/activity
? help to moderate our language specific Facebook and website pages
What induction, training and support is offered?
We offer a full induction and training and there are further training opportunities after joining SIS. You will be supported fully by the Project Coordinator and there are regular peer support sessions.
