BHT Sussex is a housing association and a homeless charity. We provide essential services across Brighton & Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings, as well as elsewhere in Sussex. We see it as our role to both challenge the causes of homelessness, poverty and marginalisation and to deal with the consequences.

First Base is looking for volunteers to help with food preparation and food service.
First Base is a day centre for homeless people – we provide people who are rough sleeping with daily essentials such as showers, clothing, lockers to store belongings, support and advice, and of course food. We serve a hot meal to around 30 clients each day.
We are looking for volunteers to help our team with meal preparation and food service. The role can involve working directly with clients serving food during our open access sessions during weekday mornings, as well as preparing meals for future sessions during the afternoon. The hours can be varied according to individual availability, but we would like to find people who can commit to coming at a regular time each week.
A full induction to the service and working with homeless people, as well as training on food hygiene, will be provided, as well as ongoing support and supervision.
