Independent panel member at Brighton and Hove Council Shared Lives scheme and Grace Eyre Shared Lives Scheme

We need someone to join our joint independent panel which oversees Shared Lives Carer approvals and assessments for the Brighton and Hove Council and the Grace- Eyre Schemes.
Shared Lives carers welcome people needing support into their home and provide full-time, short break or day share placements. While we work primarily with people with a learning disability, we also provide support to people with a mental health needs.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

The panel meets on Wednesday mornings 9.30-12, currently once every two months, although this may at times increase to monthly depending on business. The Panel currently takes place virtually on Teams with occasional face to face meetings in the Hove area. At times you will need to read panel papers prior to the meeting.
The panel works to a Terms of reference and oversees the assessment and approval of Shared Lives Carers.

If appointed, we will support you to understand the role and processes involved.

What induction, training and support is offered?

Support to understand the Terms of reference that we work to and introduction to Shared Lives as a model of support ad the standards that we work to as CQC registered services.

What skills or qualities are needed?

We need someone who:
- Is opened minded, non-judgemental, able to act in a professional manner and respect confidentiality.
- Has some experience or understanding of social care/ Shared Lives with a values driven approach.
- Is able to make the regular time commitment for at least a year.
- Has a strong commitment to equality and inclusion.
- Does not have a conflict of interest such as a personal relationship with someone in or providing a current Shared lives placement or a team worker.
- Has the ability to come prepared to the panel by having full knowledge of the contents of reports in advance of the meeting and ability to keep to time constraints.
- Is able to provide good references.
- NB: Panel members need to have a DBS Check
