The Rainbow Hub Brighton is a third-party reporting centre for hate incidents/hate crimes. The Hub is also a signposting charity set up to support the LGBTQIA+ community in Brighton and Hove. We work as a local point of contact for people seeking up to date help, information or guidance, in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Our volunteers are qualified to help individuals and where necessary refer them on to one or more of our extensive network of partner organisations for further support. We are facilitators: we help people access information. Our vision is to become experts, people who know Brighton and Hove in relation to all matters LGBTQIA+, with a sound knowledge of what our service partners do, so that we always refer people to the most appropriate organisation(s). We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive space for all in our community, regardless of sexuality, gender identity, age, ethnicity, religion and nationality, amongst others.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
You will work alongside the team at The Ledward Centre, offering support to the centre's visitors, providing them with information and being available to take hate incident/hate crime reports upon request.
What induction, training and support is offered?
An opportunity to make friends and connections within the LGBTQIA+ community of Brighton and Hove, including social meetups for volunteers. We offer initial training, tools - like equipment and database - and updates and support in their shifts. The Ledward Centre also offers regular training on Trans and Non-Binary Identities Awareness, Neurodiversity and Mental Health First Aid/Awareness that are made available to volunteers who wish to participate. We are able to provide references for volunteers upon request.
What skills or qualities are needed?
No previous experience is required, we will provide training. We request volunteers to pick up at least two shifts per month. We are flexible regarding all our roles, if you would like to help in any way there is likely something we could use a hand with.
