Brighton Youth Centre (BYC) is an exciting hub of activity open to all Young People between 5 – 19, with a focus on the 13-19 age group. The centre is a registered charity and offers a varied programme of events, activities and support for young people. We also hire out spaces for other groups to use and work in partnership with many different projects that support a wide-range young people, including young people with disabilities, young carers, young offenders, young parents and homeless young people.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
Experienced Chef to volunteer 6 hours a week
Friday 10am-1pm direct work
3 hours preparation time planning recipe & purchasing ingredients
To work in a multi- agency team, with school staff and youth workers at BYC. Cook for a group of young people who are all in a bubble & staff, 15 people maximum. Engage young people in preparing & cooking where possible and ensure a nutritious meal is served at 12:00 before they leave at 12:30. You will work within a small budget provided.
What induction, training and support is offered?
volunteer induction, any specific training required , group supervision
What skills or qualities are needed?
Knowledge and a passion to teach nutritious meals from a variety of cultural backgrounds is required. An interest in learning about young people’s favourite foods and interests is essential. Chicken nugget wraps are a favourite with this group by the way!
Good communication skills , patience and flexible approach are essential
