Spiral Sussex Ltd. (est. 2000) is a charity for disabled adults in Brighton & the surrounding areas. At our day centre in Bevendean, one of the few still open in Brighton, we provide some of the most vulnerable people in society with opportunities to socialise, learn skills and have fun while providing respite for them and their carers. We also provide specialist holidays.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
We are looking for volunteers to support clients to access our holidays, which will include providing personal care and generally socialising with them. We run two 1-week holidays per month, currently in the UK only. In 2022, COVID-19 allowing, we will be going abroad to locations such as Portugal and Ireland.
What induction, training and support is offered?
We offer e-learning including the Care Certificate.
What skills or qualities are needed?
What we are looking for in volunteers:
-Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
-Kindness, empathy and patience.
-Willing to take on responsibility.
-Able to use initiative.
-You must have had both COVID-19 vaccine jabs.
-Willingness to follow coronavirus health & safety measures including wearing a mask as many of our clients are extremely clinically vulnerable.
-Willingness to have a DBS check (arranged by Spiral).
-Experience of working in care is preferred.
-Willingness to provide personal care.
Additional skills (not essential):
-Driving license (particularly minibus)
