We are hiring new volunteers for autumn 2022 now! Vacancies on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays am and pm between 10 and 6.
Gladrags is a unique resource bringing the magic of costumes to community groups and organisations, including children and young people's projects, schools, colleges and amateur dramatics, professionals and fringe arts.
As a Charity, we are committed to reaching groups and individuals who experience disadvantage and life challenges. By providing affordable costume hire to them, from our vast range of over 7000 costumes, we are able to resource their community, educational and wellbeing projects, supporting and enriching their work.
In addition we provide costume hire to the general public for parties and social/ corporate events. This in effect subsidises the 60-80% discounted hire rates we offer not-for-profit organisations, and helps to fund our educational and community resources,
What does the opportunity involve doing?
This role is for anyone interested in volunteering in a creative environment, whether or not you have a particular interest in costume or theatre.
Volunteering with Gladrags is an opportunity to broaden your skill-set whilst giving to your community.
In our very busycostume store we welcome groups and individuals who want to hire our costumes for shows, education, projects and sometimes fancy dress parties. Our Front of house team help customers orient themselves around the store and look after them as needed. All our costume hires are logged using photos, and customers details are taken down. Our front of house assistant helps with this in a number of ways and tasks are tailored to the volunteer’s level of expertise. Tasks may cross over with other roles: admin, styling, outreach. Roles may be blended, according to organisational needs as well as your skills and interest.

What induction, training and support is offered?
We have an introduction, a full induction with health and safety advice, a trial shift and lots of training and support.
We want to find out what you are interested in and sometimes offer sewing classes.
We want to make sure the volunteers get a lot out of volunteering with us, so there are always conversations going on about possible things you might want to look into.
We give a lot of support to each volunteer and want to know how we can make you feel your time if well spent while you are helping us.
