Coram Beanstalk Reading Helper Role at Coram Beanstalk

We create readers because when a child becomes a reader, they get the very best chance in life, and every child deserves that.

We train volunteers from the local community to go into one of our partner primary schools and support the same few children on a weekly basis to grow a love of reading.

What does the opportunity involve doing?

Our trained volunteers are at the heart of what we do.

Each week they deliver fun, interactive, reading experiences. They provide one to one support to children, who are behind, giving them the help and encouragement they need to catch up - to switch onto reading, learn to read and become readers for life.

Our reading helpers give children a chance to shine... sharing, talking and having fun with books to help them see the point of reading. Their commitment and dedication helps to bring forth a new generation of readers with the confidence they need to succeed in life.

We are Coram Beanstalk. We create readers. Join us!

What induction, training and support is offered?

All our volunteers are trained during live, interative small group sessions via zoom.

Once trained and placed in a school we provide ongoing support through the use of an online portal with additional resources, monthly communications, additional training sessions and all volunteers are matched to a dedicated support representative who they can contact if they have any questions or queries.

What skills or qualities are needed?

You need to feel comfortable in a school environment, have a love of reading, and be able to commit to one afternoon a week, every week during the school term.
