Wellsbourne Healthcare Community Interest Company (CIC) is a local GP surgery in East Brighton. It was set up in 2018 by doctors and nurses working in the area, to provide a better service for local people.
We are a GP surgery with a difference. Alongside the clinical services you would expect, we are working with our community to make sure everyone can live, work, learn and play happily and healthily in East Brighton. The new community garden we are working on is just the start!
This is an exciting project providing a lovely space for the community to enjoy. We have lots of plans to grow more vegetables and plants. We have Fork and Dig It providing their expertise and also plans to build an amphitheatre. There is a great opportunity to learn more about horticulture and the therapeutic benefits of a community garden. We want to provide a peaceful space but also a space that can be used for community events and celebrations.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
The role requires support for people who may need help accessing the space and activities such as general gardening, weeding, watering, digging . It is an opportunity to find out more about our community project and how it has a positive impact on people’s health.
What induction, training and support is offered?
There will be trained garden management on site and VC. There will be opportunities to learn about permaculture and organic gardening techniques.
What skills or qualities are needed?
No particular requirements. However, experience in caring for others and giving support to other volunteers in their gardening role if needed will be useful.
